Interesting - why have A--- and Khamenei not attempted a more conciliatory tone with the opposition in Iran? The conciliation doesn't have to be real, but there can be benefits to at least appearing to be generous. It's as if they're trying to provoke the opposition. Rafsanjani has been making the argument, so I read, that if Khamenei remains unyielding the reform movement could get out of hand and bring about changes or calls thereof that no one has an interest in seeing [which I've been arguing all along - ie that there's a logical inconsistency binding the leaders of the reform movement to the movement itself].

Is it possible A--- and K are trying to incite this dangerous radicalism, or at least intimations of such, within the reform movement for the purposes of discrediting it? Could simply be a reflection of them having no idea how to proceed, caught unawares as they seemingly were by the protests - but certainly the possibility of a 'master plan' exists.
