I suppose it's curious to contemplate that China, not as Mao imagined it but as it exists today, is an engorged dependent feeding off the excesses of a fostering capitalism... that it is in effect the bound and regimented bastard offspring of democratically enabled free markets roiled by a liberality of desires... raised by our freedoms, our innovations, our progressive thinking, the dynamics of our view of the rights and values that belong to and abide with the individual... a creature created by us but not capable or willing or interested in becoming what we are and therefore no doubt destined to repudiate us when they come to imagine they no longer need us... I suppose it's curious to think that repudiation is increasingly near and at hand..."
